Discovery of supporting the survival of dopamine neurons by RNA m6A Demethylases FTO and ALKBH5

26.04.2021

We have demonstrated for the first time that our target-tailored inhibitors of RNA m6A demethylases FTO and ALKBH5 inhibitors protect dopamine neurons. They have therapeutic potential and provide tools for the identification of disease-modifying m6A RNAs in neurogenesis and neuroregeneration. Further refinement of the lead compounds identified in by us can also lead to unprecedented breakthroughs in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
